What makes you different from a VA or an administrative assistant?

A tech VA will usually want a retainer or a preset bundle of hours per month. Something that’s likely difficult for newer businesses who don’t have the money AND don’t know what work they should even be giving a VA.

I’m a bit of a research nut and a tech strategy whiz, so I’m pretty good at telling folks that they don’t actually need that much tech in the first place. Overcomplicating the tech is probably mistake number 1 for small businesses (especially new ones).

How do I know I need a tech person on my team?

Have you ever purchased a DIY course to learn a new thing (tech or otherwise) and then spent countless hours attempting to apply what you learned to your unique use case? …All because DIY has got to be cheaper than hiring someone.

Here’s the thing, DIY is unequivocally NOT cheaper.

Back when I decided to start my first side hustle in 2015, and as a student with no money, I DIYed everything.

I spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours on DIY courses, programs, and products. I learned and tried countless different business software tools, copywriting and marketing strategies, BUT I barely had any time leftover to actually run my business.

If I had to do it all over again, I’d probably still learn and try all the tech tools out there, because I love all things tech. I enjoy tinkering and learning new tools and coding languages. For me, it’s FUN.

But, I’d invest in help for all the things I could learn but don’t enjoy, like copywriting and marketing. Because, having a specialist do the things I hate, means 1) I don’t have to do them, 2) I spend far less time and money learning a skill I don’t enjoy when I could spend it growing and running the business instead.

You know you need a tech person on your team when your tech is the biggest thing on your “avoid doing” to-do list.

What if you don’t have experience with the platforms I use?

I have experience with many of the common tools used by online businesses. You can see a list of tools I’m familiar with above. If the tool you use isn’t listed, shoot me a DM on LinkedIn to see if it’s something I can help you with.

How do I know we’ll be a good fit to work together?

I’m a “let’s have a chat” type of person, so we’ll hop on a no-pressure discovery call and chat about your business’ tech goals. Basically, we’ll chat about what your needs are and what’s possible to see if we’re a good fit.

How long will my project take?

Project timelines vary, but will typically be between 1 day – 3 weeks. Once we’ve had our initial call, I’ll put together a project proposal that includes estimated pricing and timelines.

What’s your availability like? How far in advance should I reach out?

I only take on one DFY project at a time to ensure I’m able to give it my full focus and attention. Project timelines vary, but will typically be between 1 day – 3 weeks. In general, I’d recommend reaching out 2-3 weeks in advance, but the best way to get my current availability is to shoot me a DM on LinkedIn or book a call.

My Phone a Geek tech support calls are booked on an as-needed basis and you can usually find a spot on my calendar within a week or two.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, I’ll happily put a payment plan together for you in the project proposal – just make sure to mention you want one!

DFY Tech Setup

What’s the investment?

Your custom project quote will depend on scope.

But in general, pricing starts at:
$400 – for a short project that can be done in a day (up to 8hrs of work)
$400/month – for a monthly retainer (minimum 10hrs/month and 3-month commitment)

All pricing is in Canadian dollars.

Do you offer retainer services?

Yes, but only 3 spots at a time.

There is also a minimum requirement of 10hrs/month and a minimum 3-month commitment.

DFY Website Design & Setup

What’s the investment?

Your custom project quote will depend on scope.

But in general, pricing starts at:
$500 – for a one-page website setup using a design template OR a website refresh
$1,000 – for a fully custom one-page website design and setup in WordPress
$2,500 – for a multi-page website (pricing increases with level of customization and number of pages)

All pricing is in Canadian dollars.

Please note: you will have additional costs for the hosting & plugins used to build your site.

Do you do the branding & website copy too?

Short answer: No.

Branding: If you have some branding in place already, I’ll happily create a Brand Guide for you for an additional fee.

Copy: I can recommend some excellent copywriters! Seriously, I have quite a few in my back pocket, many of whom have written or helped write my own copy for both my businesses.

I provide education on how to make minor content updates to your site as part of your work with me. If you need larger updates or you just don’t want to do it yourself, I’ll be available to hire at an hourly rate to assist you.

Why should I hire you for my web design over a full-time web developer?

A web designer is really expensive typically and most small businesses don’t need a large fancy site, they just need the basics up and running.
